Displaying FS PID

Before there were Family Search ID numbers there were RIN numbers for individuals in your database/family file.

Depending on your own preferences, you may want to still use the RIN numbers next to your family members to help indentify them, you may want to use the Family Search ID numbers or you many not want any ID numbers after your ancestors' name, either way, Ancestral Quest can accomodate any of these choices.

This setting is under "Preferences" which is under "Tools".

Once you are there, notice under "Append to Names" that there are five choices:

Nothing
RIN (Record ID Number)
ID
AFN
FamilySearch ID

Depending on which one you want, you'll simply put the dot in the one you choose. If choosing the new FamilySearch ID number, you'll choose the last choice and click 'OK'. The end result will be that your ancestors will look like this if they have been linked to FamilySearch Family Tree:

Sometimes the names are very long and they may get truncaited or go to initials, it also depends on your choice. This choice is also under Preferences but you'll need to click on the tab that says "Formats". When you are there, you can choose how names and places are clipped if needed because of their length is certain views.

This is also where you can determine how the dates show and how places show.

Your choices detemine how the file will be while you are working in it. You can change how these look in various reports as well.

Enjoy the many features of Ancestral Quest!

Remember Ancestral Quest is fully FamilySearch Certified!

Comments and questions are always welcome!
